State Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, issued the following statement on the budget agreement between the Legislature and Gov. Newsom, which was approved today by the Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee, for which she is chair:

At a news conference earlier today, state and local leaders discussed an important announcement regarding recovery efforts following the horrific mass shooting that occurred at the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) Guadalupe Rail Yard on May 26th of this year.

Senator Newman’s 2021 priorities included funding to address public safety and homelessness, investments to preserve additional open space at West Coyote Hills and expanded arts and cultural programming at the architecturally important Hunt Library.

The State Legislature today announced a “three-party deal” to provide relief and protections to tenants and small landlords in California. AB 832, which will be voted on by both the Senate and Assembly on Monday June 28th, appropriates over $5 billion dollars in federal rental assistance and extends California’s rental assistance program and eviction moratorium, set in place through SB 91 and AB 3088, until September 30
