Senator Anna M. Caballero (D-Merced) and Assemblyman Frank Bigelow (R-O’Neals) announced today that they secured $5,000,000 in state funding to support Madera Community Hospital. Rural California overwhelmingly lacks access to health care and routinely faces a shortage of health care workers—issues only exacerbated by COVID-19.

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bob Hertzberg of Van Nuys issued the following statement after the Legislature approved Senate Bill 1157, his statewide plan for more efficient water-conservation standards.

“As California faces its driest stretch in 1,200 years, our water policy must match and support efforts to conserve,” Hertzberg said. “If we don’t act now, we will only be making the ultimate price we pay that much higher. We must keep faucets flowing for all Californians.”

MENLO PARK – Bold plans to speed clean energy action, waive fees for more San Mateo County community college students, and create a regional pharmacy using surplus meds to fill free prescriptions for the indigent are among the bills by Senator Josh Becker now heading to Governor Newsom for review.
The Legislature passed 12 bills by the Peninsula Democrat in the final days of the state’s 2021-2022 legislative session, which adjourned early Thursday.

This has been a very difficult and agonizing few weeks – considering the proposed extension of the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, which is located in my district. I have long-time friends on both sides of this issue, and at a virtual town hall meeting on the subject almost three weeks ago, nearly seven hundred people attended – many of whom were constituents – and there was a strong and passionate divide on the administration’s proposal.

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, announced today that he and Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, D-Winters, secured an additional $6 million in the California state budget for Yolo County projects addressing local priorities in the areas of childcare, parks, wildlife preservation and underserved farmers.

“Yolo County is making a number of key improvements that will benefit the community,” Sen. Dodd said. “From bolstering childcare to upgrading our parks, these are all worthy projects.  As always, I am glad to secure this funding to help advance local priorities.”

SACRAMENTO – The Legislature has approved a bill from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, to designate the Interstate 80-780 interchange in Vallejo as the Congressional Gold Medal Interchange in recognition of the region’s large concentration of veterans and other great Americans who have made significant contributions to the nation in war and peace.

Sacramento, CA - On the final day of session, immediately following the passage of the
Governor’s Care Courts bill, the Legislature sent S enate B ill 1446 to the Governor’s desk,
offering a solution to the objections of disability rights and homelessness advocates that the Care
Courts proposal does not guarantee treatment or housing and will be offered to individuals with
severe behavioral health disorders.

Sacramento, CA - It is deeply troubling that Senate Bill 260 failed to make the Governor’s desk. SB
260 would have required American companies with more than one billion dollars of annual revenue that
operate in California to disclose specified emissions data.
