SACRAMENTO – Continuing her work to improve educational opportunities for foster youth, Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) introduced legislation allowing greater access to higher education for current and former foster youth by strengthening an existing program for foster youth attending California’s community colleges.

Sacramento, California – State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) has introduced SB  224 to require all students in California receive age appropriate mental health education.

Sacramento - Today Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) introduced SB 210, the License Plate Privacy Act, which will prevent sensitive Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) data from being misused by law enforcement. The bill will be in print this evening and text of the legislation is available upon request.

Sacramento - Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) introduced SB 221, which would require health plans and insurers to provide patients with timely follow-up care for mental health issues and substance use disorders. California’s current law requires that Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) and insurers provide initial care for patients within ten business days following enrollment. But, under current interpretation of the law, health plans and insurers are not required to provide timely subsequent care for patients after an initial appointment.

Sacramento – Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) has introduced SB 110 to address the worsening methamphetamine addiction crisis facing our state. The Recovery Incentives Act legalizes the substance use disorder treatment known as “contingency management,” and authorizes Medi-Cal to cover it. Contingency management has proven to be the most effective method of treatment for methamphetamine addiction, and is frequently used as a treatment program by the Veterans Affairs Administration.

FAIRFIELD – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, commended Fairfield and Vacaville police officers today for their handling of an 18-hour-long, armed standoff that ended peacefully with the arrest of a man accused of threatening his parents with a knife.

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, issued the following statement today regarding the impeachment of President Donald Trump on a charge that he incited an insurrection Jan. 6 when encouraged his supporters to storm the U.S. Capitol:

“The president must be held accountable for this outrageous attack on our democratic system of government,” Sen. Dodd said. “Impeachment was the appropriate response to this unconscionable act. It sends a strong message that the American people will not allow anyone, even the president, to undermine our republic.”

SACRAMENTO – Earlier today, Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) introduced legislation requiring the addition of a new online victim portal to California’s existing rape kit tracking system to allow survivors of sexual assault to anonymously and electronically track and receive updates regarding the status, location and information regarding their rape kit.
