Senator Wiener Introduces SB 866 — the Teens Choose Vaccines Act — to Allow Young People 12 and Over to Get Vaccinated Without Parental Consent

SACRAMENTO - Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) introduced Senate Bill 866, the Teens Choose Vaccines Act. SB 866 allows young people 12 years and older to get vaccinated without parental consent. SB 866 applies to all vaccines approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that meet the recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Sen. Dodd Introduces Junior Hunting License Bill

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, today announced new legislation to increase the eligibility age for a junior hunting license in California, opening opportunities to participate in outdoor sports to a greater number of young people.

“The higher price for an adult hunting license has proven to be a barrier to many teenagers,” Sen. Dodd said. “That’s a shame because they miss out on junior hunting activities that foster life-long participation in outdoor sports. My bill will give them more time in the field so they can learn about all California has to offer.”

Senator Wiener’s Bills to Require Corporations to Report Carbon Emissions, Streamline Solar Permitting, and End Wrongful Convictions Pass Senate Appropriations Committee, Will Be Voted on by the Senate

SACRAMENTO - Three of Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) bills, including legislation to require corporations to report carbon emissions, streamline solar permitting, and end wrongful convictions based on faulty expert witness testimony, will be taken up for a full Senate vote after passing the Senate Appropriation Committee.

The deadline for the Senate to approve these bills is January 31.

Senator Wiener Introduces Health Care Accountability and Access Legislation to Support Improved Patient Care

SACRAMENTO - Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) introduced Senate Bill 858 and Senate Bill 853 to improve patient access to quality health care. SB 858, the Health Plan Accountability Act, updates and increases penalties for health plans that violate state law in denying or delaying insurance coverage. SB 853, the Medication Access Act, requires health plans to cover medications through the duration of any appeals of a denial of insurance coverage.

Senator Susan Rubio’s Bill Champions Young Child Tax Credit Expansion

SACRAMENTO, CA – Building off her efforts in 2021, Senator Susan Rubio, D-Baldwin Park, today introduced a bill expanding the eligibility for the child tax credit, which will help struggling families and reduce poverty.  

SB 860 expands the eligibility of the Young Child Tax Credit (YCTC) from $1 earning to $0 to include in-home caregivers without paid work. Senator Rubio introduced a similar bill, SB 691, last year. Governor Gavin Newsom’s January proposed budget highlighted the need for this expansion.
