SACRAMENTO – Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego), Senator Steve Glazer (D-Contra Costa), Senate Select Committee on Student Success, Senator Connie Leyva (D-Chino), Chair of the Senate Education Committee, and Senator Richard Roth (D-Riverside) today applauded the Governor signing Assembly Bill 48, which the Legislature passed to place a $15 billion bond on the March 2020 ballot to fund new classrooms, labs, and libraries for California’s K-12 public schools and universities.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, Senate Bill (SB) 504, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D- Carmel) and co-authored by Assemblymember Jordan Cunningham (R- San Luis Obispo), was signed into law by Governor Newsom. 

SB 504 provides the City of Pismo Beach with ownership of 2.5 miles of Highway 1 located within city limits.  This section of Highway 1 is currently under the jurisdiction of the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). 

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, Senate Bill (SB) 467, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D- Carmel) and co-authored by Assemblymember Jordan Cunningham (R- San Luis Obispo), that requires the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) to place cost of attendance information on their website was signed into law by Governor Newsom. 

Long Beach, CA – Thursday, October 3, 2019 – Senator Lena Gonzalez was honored at the United Cambodian Community 42nd Anniversary Gala.

SACRAMENTO – In recognition of society’s growing dependence on the internet and computer technology – as well as the risks they pose to our finances, identities and privacy -- Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, has passed a resolution designating October as National Cybersecurity Awareness Month in the state of California.

SACRAMENTO –Senator María Elena Durazo (D-Los Ángeles) announced today that Governor Gavin Newsom has signed SB 354, which extends the California DREAM Loan Program to UC and CSU graduate students.

SACRAMENTO – Legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) to require the University of California (UC) to follow the same rules as private employers and encourage university administrators to prioritize the accurate, timely and fair payment of their employees was signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom.

SACRAMENTO –Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, announced today that Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed his legislation to eliminate the confusion and delays caused by uninformed, out-of-state or multiple insurance adjusters during the 2017 North Bay wildfires.

Senate Bill 240 requires the California Department of Insurance to produce information on the most significant state insurance laws related to disasters and set training standards for agents handling catastrophic events. It also mandates that insurers provide a single point of contact for customers to make processing claims easier.

San Diego—Acting as Governor of California in the absence of Governor Gavin Newsom and Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis, Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins today released the following statement:

“Upon learning I would again be serving as Acting Governor, I contacted my closest advisors to determine a course of action. I immediately heard from Acting First Dog Joey, who, while initially grumpy upon learning that he had not actually remained First Dog since receiving the title in July 2014, was ultimately helpful — mainly in exchange for snacks.

SACRAMENTO – Beginning in January, Foreign Service Officers from California representing the United States abroad, and their spouses, will be able to get an extension for their driver’s licenses that will keep them valid for the duration of the time they are serving abroad.  Governor Newsom today signed Senate Bill 267, authored by Sen. Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont), which grants Foreign Service Officers the same license extensions as members of the military.
