SACRAMENTO – Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego), Senator Steve Glazer (D-Contra Costa), Senate Select Committee on Student Success, Senator Connie Leyva (D-Chino), Chair of the Senate Education Committee, and Senator Richard Roth (D-Riverside) today applauded the Governor signing Assembly Bill 48, which the Legislature passed to place a $15 billion bond on the March 2020 ballot to fund new classrooms, labs, and libraries for California’s K-12 public schools and universities.

Legislation to Transfer Section of Highway 1 to the City of Pismo Beach Signed by Governor

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, Senate Bill (SB) 504, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D- Carmel) and co-authored by Assemblymember Jordan Cunningham (R- San Luis Obispo), was signed into law by Governor Newsom. 

SB 504 provides the City of Pismo Beach with ownership of 2.5 miles of Highway 1 located within city limits.  This section of Highway 1 is currently under the jurisdiction of the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).

Governor Signs Sen. Dodd’s Insurance Adjuster Standards Bill

SACRAMENTO –Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, announced today that Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed his legislation to eliminate the confusion and delays caused by uninformed, out-of-state or multiple insurance adjusters during the 2017 North Bay wildfires.

Senate Bill 240 requires the California Department of Insurance to produce information on the most significant state insurance laws related to disasters and set training standards for agents handling catastrophic events. It also mandates that insurers provide a single point of contact for customers to make processing claims easier.

Governor Newsom signs Wieckowski bill to give Foreign Service Officers driver's license extensions

October 3, 2019

SACRAMENTO – Beginning in January, Foreign Service Officers from California representing the United States abroad, and their spouses, will be able to get an extension for their driver’s licenses that will keep them valid for the duration of the time they are serving abroad.  Governor Newsom today signed Senate Bill 267, authored by Sen. Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont), which grants Foreign Service Officers the same license extensions as members of the military.
