Senate Committee Approves Senator Wiener’s Bipartisan Bill to Allow Cities to Choose to Extend Alcohol Sales to 4 AM

Sacramento –  Today the Senate Governmental Organization Committee approved Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) bill to allow – but not require – cities to extend sales of alcohol at bars, nightclubs, and restaurants (but not liquor stores) to as late as 4 a.m. The bill now moves to the Senate Appropriations Committee.

March 13, 2018: Culver City students, educators honor shooting victims

Wednesday, March 14, more than 2,000 Culver City students will be joining thousands of other Angelenos in a nationwide walkout to honor the victims of the Parkland, Fla., shooting.

Students will congregate for one hour on the Culver City High School football field to rally and deliver speeches expressing their concerns and worries about their own safety. Email for more information.

Their goal is noble: Raise public awareness to the issue of gun violence, create more civically minded students and support fellow students in Parkland.

SACRAMENTO – After developing Alopecia Universalis, an illness causing total hair loss, when she was 2 years old, Alanna Robin Powell struggled for years with mental and emotional health issues as she got older.  But in 2012 she took charge of her life and fully accepted her illness. She began to use her personal experience to help others overcome their suffering.  Now she is the founder and president of Boldly Me, a nonprofit organization she started in 2012 that has served over 17,000 children, including more than 150 with suicidal thoughts or plans to hurt themselves in some way.

SACRAMENTO – A broad, bipartisan coalition of legislators, students and faculty are calling for full funding and a tuition freeze for students at the California State University and the University of California at a Capitol news conference today (Monday, March 12).

Both CSU and UC are considering tuition increases to compensate for a shortfall in the Governor’s budget. To avoid tuition hikes and improve access, CSU is seeking $171 million more in state funding; UC is seeking $105 million more.
