SACRAMENTO, CA – With California setting a goal of 5 million Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEVs) by 2030, Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) has introduced the ZEV Equity Act (Senate Bill 957) to open carpool lanes to drivers of used clean air vehicles.

The Office of State Senator Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) issued the following statement today regarding the Alameda County Board of Supervisor’s approval of the Alameda County Child Care and Early Education Ordinance and draft program plan:

This week, Senator Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) introduced legislation to accelerate the uptake of EVs and other zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) deployed by ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft. Dubbed “E-CAr” (Electrify California Rideshare), Skinner’s legislation would set zero-emission targets for rides arranged through Transportation Network Companies (TNCs). To give a boost to TNC drivers who want to use California’s ZEV incentives, the bill would direct funds specifically for rebates for TNC drivers.

Sacramento, California-  Senator Anthony J. Portantino, D – La Cañada Flintridge, introduced SB 972 which would require all public, charter, and private schools to print a suicide prevention hotline number on the back of students identification cards. The measure would be enacted July 1, 2019 for grades seven through twelve and all higher education institutions. Adolescent suicide and self-inflicted injury are a serious social and public health concern. Senator Portantino has a distinguished record supporting the well-being of kids at all levels.

Union City – State Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) will recognize the work of four local awardees making important contributions to the 10th Senate District at his 7th Annual African American Heritage Leadership Awards program.  The awards program is at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, February 8 in the Union City Council Chambers, 34009 Alvarado-Niles Rd.  Doors open at 3 p.m.

Fremont – State Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) introduced legislation yesterday to relinquish a stretch of State Route (SR) 84 to the city of Fremont.  Under SB 989, the portion of SR 84 between I-880 and Mission Boulevard would be turned over to the city. 

Senator Toni Atkins (D-San Diego) on Tuesday introduced SB 1005, a bill that allows survivors of violent crimes, such as domestic violence, to use state-provided victim-relocation funds to pay for expenses related to housing an animal companion, including pet deposits and pet rent.

SB 1004 does so by requiring a much more structured and focused approach on prevention and early intervention mental health programs funded by the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA), which is funded by a tax on millionaires (Prop 63).
