Here are Sen. Loni Hancock’s top bills when session resumes Monday, Aug. 1

SACRAMENTO – Working to meet an Aug. 31 deadline to pass legislation when lawmakers return to California’s Capitol on Monday, Sen. Loni Hancock seeks adoption of statewide protections against expansion of coal transportation and is also focused on extending a program to provide greater safeguards against human trafficking. 

SACRAMENTO -- Californians remain strongly supportive of the state’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and a two-thirds majority would like to see the target for rolling back climate pollution expanded to 2030. That strong support extends across all regions of the state, all ethnic groups, and families of all income levels.

Those were among the key findings of a statewide public opinion survey conducted by the nonpartisan Public Policy Institute of California, released Wednesday night.

SACRAMENTO – California Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) issued the following statement on the Public Policy Institute of California’s Survey on Californians and the Environment:

(SACRAMENTO, CA)  - Today, Governor Brown signed Senate Bill (SB) 939 by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), which gives Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) residents and their estates protections against significant delays in the repayment of residents’ entrance fees when contracts condition the repayment on the resale of CCRC units.  Entrance fees for CCRCs can range from $100,000 to $1 million, and many residents sell their homes and assets to cover the fee.

SACRAMENTO – Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement today on the Governor’s signing AB 857 (Cooper), requiring individuals who assemble homemade own guns to seek a serial number for the weapon and pass a background check ith the Department of Justice:

High drug prices is a reason for increase

SACRAMENTO – Covered California announced a statewide weighted average increase of 13.2% for 2017, which is due in part to the loss of the federal reinsurance program and the high cost of specialty drugs.

Given Senator Ed Hernandez’ leadership as chair of the Senate Health Committee, he released the following statement:

SACRAMENTO – The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) recently added another violation to an already existing list of violations against Quemetco, Inc. The battery recycling facility in the City of Industry in Los Angeles County failed to maintain a functioning leak-detection system in its containment building that houses hazardous waste related to the facility’s handling of lead.
