Senator Reyes issued the following statement in response to Attorney General Rob Bonta’s lawsuit challenging ICE’s civil immigration arrests in and around California courthouses. The complaint cites Senate Bill 873, authored by Senator Gómez Reyes, which strengthens protections against civil arrests for people traveling to, attending, or returning from court, including within 1,000 feet of a courthouse.

San Bernardino County residents will have the final say over the process used to draw their supervisorial districts under legislation authored by Senator Eloise Gómez Reyes (D-Colton) and signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom.

Governor Gavin Newsom has signed Senate Bill 873, strengthening protections for Californians accessing the state’s courts and helping ensure that victims, witnesses, families and other court users can participate in the justice system without fear of civil immigration arrest.
