SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA – In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic bringing racial inequities in California and throughout the U.S. into sharp relief, the California Legislature is considering a systematic approach to curbing racial inequity via SB 17, introduced in the California Senate by Dr. Richard Pan (D-Sacramento). SB 17,  which has now been referred to the Governmental Organization Committee and the Judiciary Committee, builds on the commitment Gov.

To improve perinatal outcomes and address racial pregnancy and birthing mortality disparities for parents and infants, state Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, announced today the introduction of Senate Bill 65, also known as the California “Momnibus” Act. 

SACRAMENTO – The Senate Rules Committee appointed Vernita Todd to the Health Professions Education Foundation Board of Trustees during its hearing today. As Chair of the California Senate Rules Committee, Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego), who recommended Todd to serve on the board, issued the following statement:

Sacramento, California – Senate Bills 14, 224, and 237, authored by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge), received bipartisan support today and were approved by the Senate Education Committee. 

SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco)’s Senate Bill 107, which would expand access to CalFresh food benefits for seniors and for all Californians, passed the Senate Human Services Committee today by a bipartisan vote of 4-0. It will now head to the Senate Appropriations Committee.
