Senator Wiener Introduces Legislation to Implement Automated Solar Permitting in Local Jurisdictions

SACRAMENTO – Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) introduced SB 617, the Solar Access Act. SB 617 implements automated solar permitting in local jurisdictions with over 10,000 residents. This will allow for remote inspections and approvals of residential solar and solar-plus-storage systems, which will greatly decrease approval times, cut permitting costs for local governments and homeowners, and help California meet its greenhouse gas emission reduction goals. SB 617 is co-sponsored by SPUR and Environment California.

The last iteration of the program was developed nearly a decade ago, rendering fundamental measures and objectives within the program outdated and in grave need of revitalization. SB 726 and AB 1389 would ensure it is updated to reflect clean vehicle technological advancements and to align with current clean air and climate goals.

Senator Portantino Introduces Bill Requiring Confirmation of Hunting License Validity & Addressing Independent Review of Gun Possession Disputes

Sacramento, California – Today Senator Anthony J. Portantino’s (D – La Cañada Flintridge) introduced SB 715, a measure that would define a valid and unexpired hunting license and would require the Department of Justice (DOJ) to confirm the validity of the hunting license. The bill would also authorize the state prosecutor to investigate officer-involved shootings that result in the death of a civilian if there is a reasonable dispute whether that civilian was armed.
