"Today, Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Superintendent Ramon Cortines closed all schools in the District in response to a credible threat of violence received late last night. Every school campus is being searched. LAUSD gave a televised update at 10 am, promising to continue to do so every half-hour for the remainder of the day.

Governor signs Sen. Holly J. Mitchell bill to exempt all minors from open court criminal testimony

Sacramento — A measure to spare child witnesses from being required to give testimony in open court in criminal cases, has been signed into law by the Governor. As passed by the Legislature, with an effective date of the beginning of 2016, the bill extends to any potential witness aged 13 or younger, the same protection available under law to those child witnesses who cannot be required to testify in open court if they have been a victim of the crime under adjudication.

Senate OKs Mitchell’s Repeal of Cap on Family Aid

Sacramento – Senator Holly J. Mitchell's bill to repeal the Maximum Family Grant (MFG) rule in the CalWORKs program has been approved by the Senate. CalWORKs benefits are normally based, in part, on the number of family members in a household – except when a child is born into a family that is already receiving those benefits.
