State Senator Jerry Hill, as chair of the Subcommittee on Gas, Electric and Transportation Safety, announced today that he will hold a hearing January 26 in Santa Rosa with North Bay Senators Bill Dodd and Mike McGuire and Assemblymembers Marc Levine and Jim Wood to examine utilities’ best practices to prevent and respond to wildfires.

Prompted by attempts to recover costs for wildfires, Senators Jerry Hill, Ben Allen, Bill Dodd, Mike McGuire and Scott Wiener and Assemblymembers Marc Levine and Jim Wood author SB 819. The legislators introduced the bill today to prevent electric utilities from passing costs that result from negligent practices onto customers by raising rates.

Senator Hill to Introduce Bill Requiring Contractors to Report Construction Defect Settlements

December 21, 2017

State Senator Jerry Hill announced today that he will introduce a bill to require contractors to report settlements of construction defect cases involving multi-family housing units to the Contractors State License Board as part of the effort to increase oversight of the industry in response to the Berkeley balcony tragedy. Multi-family housing units would include rented or leased apartments and condominiums, and dwellings that are part of a building or complex overseen by a homeowners association.
