State Senator Jerry Hill, joined by Senators Jim Beall, Bob Wieckowski and Scott Wiener and Assemblymembers David Chiu, Ash Kalra, Kevin Mullin, Mark Stone and Phil Ting, introduced legislation today that lays the groundwork for Caltrain to fund itself and meet the growing demands for public transportation along the West Bay’s prime transit corridor

"Electrification of Caltrain will help ease congestion along the Peninsula, one of the Bay Area’s busiest traffic corridors,” said Senator Hill. “We’re grateful for Secretary Chao’s decision and for the work of our Congressional representatives and our governor to secure funding approval for this critical project."

State Senator Jerry Hill announced today that he will introduce legislation to help the DMV curb abuses of the state’s program for disabled placards and license plates, which allows motorists to use parking spots reserved for disabled drivers and permits them to park in time-limited slots indefinitely. Holders of disabled placards and license plates can also park in metered spots without paying.

Advocates for strict legal safeguards to prevent abuse of children and teens in underage or forced marriages will testify in support of Senator Jerry Hill’s Senate Bill 273 in a hearing conducted by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The California State Senate unanimously approved Senator Jerry Hill’s bill requiring that passengers buckle up when riding in buses that are equipped with safety belts. Senate Bill 20 would also apply to bus drivers.

On a 9-0 vote, the Senate Committee on Health passed legislation by Senator Jerry Hill that would make California the first state in the country to monitor and track antibiotic-resistant infections and deaths.

Prompted by consumers’ pleas for help when confronted with soaring utility bills, Senator Jerry Hill announced today that he has introduced legislation to help curb the wild fluctuations in energy bills during winter months and to require investor-owned utilities to provide information that will help customers anticipate the amount of their next bill so they can act in time to reduce costs.

Senate Bill 65, introduced by Senator Jerry Hill and co-authored by Assemblymember Evan Low, will be heard by the Senate Public Transportation and Housing Committee. The bill closes a loophole in the law, which now permits recreational use of marijuana but does not make smoking or consuming it while driving illegal.

The Senate Transportation and Housing Committee voted unanimously in favor of Senator Jerry Hill’s bill requiring the passengers buckle up when riding in buses that are equipped with safety belts. Senate Bill 20 also applies to bus drivers. 

State Senator Jerry Hill will introduce legislation to close a loophole in state law that allows even young children to wed because there is no minimum age requirement for marriage. His bill would prohibit individuals younger than 18 from marrying.
