SACRAMENTO – Legislation inspired by the 2017 wildfires from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that would ramp up penalties for caregivers who desert elders during emergencies cleared a key committee today on a unanimous vote.

“We simply cannot allow our seniors to be left behind to fend for themselves when disaster strikes,” Sen. Dodd said. “They must be protected, especially with the growing wildfire threat. This bill penalizes caretakers who shirk their responsibilities and encourages more people to do the right thing.”

Sen. Dodd Issues Statement on Gov. Newsom's Support for Horse Racing Bill

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, issued the following statement today in response to the announce from Gov. Gavin Newsom that he was supporting Sen. Dodd’s bill, Senate Bill 469, which would authorize the suspension of racing at tracks where dangerous conditions exist. The proposal comes amid a spate of horse deaths at Santa Anita Park.

“I appreciate Gov. Newsom for stepping up and being proactive to support my bill,” Sen. Dodd said. “This is much-needed and commonsense legislation to protect horses and riders.”

Sen. Dodd: June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month

SACRAMENTO – In recognition of a serious and growing crisis in California, Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, announced today the Senate has approved a resolution designating June as Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Awareness month.

“Sadly, not a day goes by without reports of horrific cases of abuse or exploitation of the elderly or adults with disabilities,” Sen. Dodd said. “Recognizing the pervasive nature of this problem as well as the warning signs is a key step toward prevention.”
