SACRAMENTO – Senator Bill Dodd (D-Napa) introduced a bill to bolster the state’s efforts to prevent drunk driving. The bill would increase the reach of the California Highway Patrol’s Designated Driver Program, which provides education and outreach to help prevent drunk driving.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Bill Dodd (D-Napa) introduced a bill to improve safety during power outages by requiring newly sold or installed garage door motors to have a battery backup. The bill comes in the wake of devastating wildfires that left numerous evacuees and victims unable to open their garage doors to flee the flames.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Bill Dodd (D-Napa) introduced a bill to reduce the risk of wildfires caused by downed power lines. The bill requires electric utilities to adopt comprehensive policies and procedures for proactively de-energizing power lines during extreme weather.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Bill Dodd (D-Napa) introduced new insurance reform legislation aimed at helping victims of wildfires and other major disasters. The legislation comes following the spate of devastating wildfires up and down the state, including the Tubbs, Atlas and Nuns fires in Senator Dodd’s district.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Bill Dodd (D-Napa) issued the following statement today on the announcement of Governor Brown’s proposed 2018-19 state budget:

SACRAMENTO – Senator Bill Dodd (D-Napa) introduced a bill to provide universal preschool to all four year olds in the state of California.

“Adopting universal preschool is an investment in our future that will pay dividends for years to come, said Senator Dodd. “As a father and a grandfather, I know that there is no more precious resource than our young people. We need to step up our investment in the next generation. Universal preschool is absolutely essential for economic vitality and social mobility.”

SACRAMENTO – Senator Bill Dodd (D-Napa) introduced a joint resolution this week calling on Congress to authorize a long-term extension of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The program provides insurance to 1.3 million California children and is set to expire by March.  

SACRAMENTO – Senator Bill Dodd (D-Napa) introduced a new bill to add media literacy education to school curriculums and ensure students have the tools to succeed in the digital age.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Bill Dodd (D-Napa) and Assemblymember Jim Frazier (D-Discovery Bay) will hold a town hall on Thursday, Nov. 30 to examine the proposed WaterFix project and discuss related concerns, including recent findings by the State Auditor. The town hall will be held at the Jean Harvie Community Center, 14273 River Road, in Walnut Grove, from 10 am. to noon. Members of the public are invited to attend.

This morning, Governor Brown issued an emergency proclamation for Napa and Sonoma Counties due to the effects of multiple fires, including the Tubbs and Atlas fires, which have damaged critical infrastructure, threatened thousands of homes and caused the evacuation of residents.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the fires. Like so many of our neighbors, I was forced to evacuate my home this morning, and I will be monitoring the status of these fires closely.
