Measure to require 72-hour online public review for legislation moves forward
SACRAMENTO–Assembly Rules Committee voted 6-2 today to approve a measure by Senator Lois Wolk (D–Davis) to increase accountability, transparency and public input on legislation.

Current legislation to aid veterans nears Governor’s desk
SACRAMENTO– Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) was honored Friday by residents of the Veterans’ Home in Yountville for her work to reverse a 2009-10 budget action that resulted in non-veteran spouses having to pay up to 90 percent of their income to live with their husband or wife at a state veterans’ home.
Wolk’s Senate Bill 1440, which took effect in 2015, allowed non-veteran spouses to pay the same fees and charges as their veteran spouse to live at one of the state’s veterans’ homes.

SACRAMENTO – Late this afternoon both houses of the legislature adopted the 2016-17 State Budget which included $20 million in funding for the Napa County jail and $5 million for the California Firearm Violence Research Center.

$5 million in state budget for University of California-based center
SACRAMENTO, CA—California’s State Legislature voted late yesterday to establish a firearm violence research center at the University of California, filling the gap left by Congressional restrictions on firearms research, four days after the deadliest mass shooting in American history.

Wolk bill to provide safe drinking water to disadvantaged communities also approved 
(SACRAMENTO, CA)– The State Senate approved two water measures by Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) today, including legislation to protect California’s aquifers and groundwater resources from permanent damage due to overdraft. Both bills will next be heard in the State Assembly. 

Bill safeguards the natural, historic and cultural attributes of 13 inner coast counties 
(SACRAMENTO, CA)–The State Senate voted 24-12 today to approve legislation by State Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) to protect and preserve the geological, historic and cultural attributes of 13 counties along the Northern Inner Coast Range.
Senate Bill 1396 would establish the Inner Coast Range Program within the Wildlife Conservation Board, the state agency that administers a capital outlay program for wildlife conservation and related public recreation.

(SACRAMENTO)–Today, on a 27 – 7 bipartisan vote, the State Senate approved Senate Bill 1414 by State Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) to increase the effectiveness of ratepayer-funded energy efficiency programs, which are critical to the State’s energy and environmental policies.

Bill to provide safe drinking water and wastewater service for all Californians moves forward
SACRAMENTO–Legislation to prevent ongoing drinking water contamination like that seen in Flint, Michigan, from harming families in disadvantaged communities throughout California was approved today on a 4-2 vote by the Senate Appropriations Committee. The bill will next be heard by the full Senate.
