In wake of Flint, state moves to improve water systems for disadvantaged communities

Bill to provide safe drinking water and wastewater service for all Californians moves forward
SACRAMENTO–Legislation to prevent ongoing drinking water contamination like that seen in Flint, Michigan, from harming families in disadvantaged communities throughout California was approved today on a 4-2 vote by the Senate Appropriations Committee. The bill will next be heard by the full Senate.

SACRAMENTO–The State Senate voted 35-0 Monday to approve legislation by State Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) to protect students by allowing the transfer of pupils convicted of violent crimes    such as felony battery, rape, kidnapping and attempted murder.

Law enforcement group names Wolk its Legislator of the Year

Group honors Senator for authoring campus gun safety bill
(SACRAMENTO, CA)–The California College & University Police Chiefs Association honored State Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) as its 2016 Legislator of the Year today for her leadership in authoring legislation to help control concealed weapons on school and college campuses.
Wolk’s Senate Bill 707, sponsored by CCUPCA, prohibits concealed weapons carriers from bringing their firearm on campus without permission from campus authorities. The new law took effect January 1, 2016.
