SACRAMENTO—Assemblymember Evan Low (D-Silicon Valley), Chair of the California Assembly Elections and Redistricting Committee, introduced an amendment to the state constitution today that would lower the voting age from 18 to 17 in California. Assembly Constitutional Amendment (ACA) 10 is co-authored by a bipartisan group of California Millennial Caucus members.

“Our legislative agenda is not driven by Trump mania.  We are tuning out the noise and focusing on what matters most: creating jobs that can't be outsourced, preserving our environment, protecting our communities, and empowering the next generation of Californians,” said Senator Stern.
 
This includes legislation to close loopholes in laws governing sexual assault, edible marijuana, and human trafficking.
 

SACRAMENTO – Today, Senate leadership unveiled the Preserve California legislative package to insulate the state from dangerous rollbacks in federal environmental regulations and public health protections.

(Sacramento) – Freshman State Senator Henry Stern (D-Canoga Park) introduced his first bill today. SB 146 will stop the Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) from re-opening the Aliso Canyon Gas Storage Facility before the Brown administration completes its investigation of the “root cause” of the largest methane gas leak in United States’ history.

LOS ANGELES - Today, State Senator Henry Stern announced a legislative proposal to accelerate a new round of clean energy storage projects in Southern California.
In response to the Aliso Canyon gas blowout in Porter Ranch, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) expedited the approval and construction of about 100 MW of clean energy storage projects in Southern California Edison and San Diego Gas & Electric territories.

SACRAMENTO – The Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee today voted 7-2 in favor of Senate Bill 57, an urgency measure by State Senator Henry Stern to stop the reopening of the Aliso Canyon Gas Storage Facility until state regulators have completed an investigation to determine the root cause of the massive methane leak which took four months to plug and displaced more than 8,000 families from their homes.

SACRAMENTO – To end uncertainty in the collection of victim restitution from convicted offenders that resulted from public safety realignment, Gov. Jerry Brown on Tuesday signed a bill by Senator Fran Pavley that will both ensure restitution is collected from the accounts of county jail inmates and that funds aren’t double-collected from individuals on Post-Release Community Supervision.

Responding to lessons learned from the massive Aliso Canyon natural gas leak, Gov. Jerry Brown on Monday signed a bill by Senator Fran Pavley to establish proactive safety standards for natural gas storage wells.

Among provisions in SB 887 are requirements for continuous monitoring for leaks, regular inspections of wells to test their mechanical integrity, and that all wells be equipped with safeguards to ensure that no single point of failure can result in a leak.
