Asm. Low Introduces State Constitutional Amendment to Lower Voting Age to 17

March 9, 2017

SACRAMENTO—Assemblymember Evan Low (D-Silicon Valley), Chair of the California Assembly Elections and Redistricting Committee, introduced an amendment to the state constitution today that would lower the voting age from 18 to 17 in California. Assembly Constitutional Amendment (ACA) 10 is co-authored by a bipartisan group of California Millennial Caucus members.

Proposal to Double Down on Clean Energy Storage in LA Area Announced

LOS ANGELES - Today, State Senator Henry Stern announced a legislative proposal to accelerate a new round of clean energy storage projects in Southern California.
In response to the Aliso Canyon gas blowout in Porter Ranch, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) expedited the approval and construction of about 100 MW of clean energy storage projects in Southern California Edison and San Diego Gas & Electric territories.

Urgency Measure to Halt Reopening of Aliso Canyon Clears First Hurdle

SACRAMENTO – The Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee today voted 7-2 in favor of Senate Bill 57, an urgency measure by State Senator Henry Stern to stop the reopening of the Aliso Canyon Gas Storage Facility until state regulators have completed an investigation to determine the root cause of the massive methane leak which took four months to plug and displaced more than 8,000 families from their homes.

Brown signs bill by Senator Pavley to better ensure collection of restitution for crime victims

SACRAMENTO – To end uncertainty in the collection of victim restitution from convicted offenders that resulted from public safety realignment, Gov. Jerry Brown on Tuesday signed a bill by Senator Fran Pavley that will both ensure restitution is collected from the accounts of county jail inmates and that funds aren’t double-collected from individuals on Post-Release Community Supervision.

New law establishes comprehensive safety reforms for natural gas storage wells in aftermath of last year’s disaster at Aliso Canyon

Responding to lessons learned from the massive Aliso Canyon natural gas leak, Gov. Jerry Brown on Monday signed a bill by Senator Fran Pavley to establish proactive safety standards for natural gas storage wells.

Among provisions in SB 887 are requirements for continuous monitoring for leaks, regular inspections of wells to test their mechanical integrity, and that all wells be equipped with safeguards to ensure that no single point of failure can result in a leak.
