Senator Stern’s Bill to Empower Foster Youth Signed by Governor

SACRAMENTO – State Senator Henry Stern’s bill to increase voter registration opportunities for California’s foster youth is set to become state law after yesterday receiving Governor Brown’s signature. Senate Bill 332 earned unanimous support in both houses of the legislature and will ensure foster youth, an often marginalized group, receive voter registration services when transitioning to adulthood.

Senator Henry Stern’s Bill to Protect Child Victims of Sexual Violence Signed by Governor Brown

SACRAMENTO – State Senator Henry Stern’s SB 756, which will provide restitution for mental health services to young sexual abuse victims, has been signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown after receiving unanimous approval from members of both the State Assembly and Senate. SB 756 is the freshman Senator’s first measure sent to the Governor and signed into law.

Senator Henry Stern Hosts Surf Summit to Build Bridges Between Inland and Coastal Communities

MALIBU - At least a hundred kids from across Los Angeles County spent the day surfing, learning about the ocean environment and engaging with their state representatives in a whole new way at State Senator Henry Stern's Inaugural Surf Summit.

The event was the brainchild of Senator Stern who engaged the Children’s Lifesaving Foundation and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Malibu, West San Gabriel Valley, West Valley, and Variety Boys & Girls Club to participate and shuttle their members out to Zuma Beach for the summit.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Henry Stern released the following statement regarding the Senate’s passage of the 2017-18 state budget: 

“California's economy is surging, and while we could have spent more, this budget shows restraint.  Given the chaos in Washington, and inevitability of future downturns in the economy, bolstering the rainy day fund to $12 billion and reducing long-term pension liabilities makes good fiscal sense,” stated Senator Henry Stern.

Finalists will be featured in a local summer showcase in Southern California with one work selected to be displayed in the State Capitol art exhibit through September 2018.

Senator Stern’s Aliso Canyon Bill Stalls on Senate Floor, Some Legislators Siding with Gas Company

SACRAMENTO – Today, State Senator Henry Stern’s SB 57 stalled today on the Senate Floor, falling three votes shy of the two-thirds threshold required to pass it on an urgency basis. 

“Given the power of the gas lobby, I’m not surprised the bill stalled,” remarked Senator Stern. “I will continue to fight to give the residents of the north San Fernando Valley and Southern California ratepayers the comfort that another disaster like this never happens again.”

California Senate and Assembly Elections Chairs Dubious of Trump's Recent Order on Election Integrity

SACRAMENTO – Today, Chairmen of the Senate and Assembly Elections Committees, State Senator Henry Stern and Assemblymember Marc Berman issued a joint statement condemning President Trump’s latest Executive Order announcing a commission to investigate voter fraud.
