SACRAMENTO – Senator Henry Stern issued the following statement applauding the Wildlife Conservation Board’s approval of a $390,000 grant to restore and enhance the Liberty Canyon wildlife underpass damaged in the Woolsey Fire, coming on the heels of a successful advocacy campaign to secure a $300 million extension of the state’s Habitat Conservation Fund:

SACRAMENTO – Senator Henry Stern’s proposal to lower California’s pre-registration age to 15 and enfranchise tens of thousands more voters the day they turn 18 (SB 727) today passed through the Senate Elections & Constitutional Amendments Committee.

SACRAMENTO— On Monday, Senator Henry Stern named Lieutenant Jennifer Seetoo as Woman of the Year for the 27th Senate District. Just a few days on the job in early November 2018, Lieutenant Seetoo took the reins at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station, serving as the acting captain during the Woolsey Fire.

Thousand Oaks – California State Senator Henry I. Stern (D- Thousand Oaks) issued the following statement on the shooting in Thousand Oaks, California:

“We never think a mass shooting will happen in our community...until it does. Today, we mourn with anger and unwanted grief the loss of those who were taken from the Thousand Oaks community far too early.

Dear Governor Brown,

Two years ago today, the residents of the northern San Fernando Valley discovered what became the largest gas leak in US history in their own backyards.  Two years later we are faced with more questions than answers.  The precautionary principle militates towards the resumption of a moratorium on new gas injections and withdrawals until we have answered critical questions about ongoing health and safety risks.  More simply put: don’t start injecting until you finish inspecting.

SACRAMENTO – In response the Aliso Canyon blowout in 2015, the largest natural gas disaster in US history, the California Council on Science and Technology (CCST) released a report​ today analyzing the safety, viability and operational risks of the Southern California Gas Company’s controversial storage facilities and the 13 other major gas storage fields located throughout California.
