“In 2009, we passed the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Reform Act of 2009.  Ten years later, we have made little real progress in achieving the ‘co-equal goals’ of providing a more reliable water supply for California and protecting, restoring, and enhancing the Delta ecosystem, while protecting and enhancing the Delta as an evolving place.

SACRAMENTO – Yesterday, Senator Henry Stern’s bill to enhance conservatorships for Californians experiencing chronic homelessness and severe mental health and substance abuse issues (SB 40) passed the California State Senate.

“Some people don’t have the capacity to accept help, and they die because of it. That’s where government has a moral obligation to step in,” said Senator Stern. “I applaud my colleagues for supporting these enhancements to our conservatorship programs so that we can save California’s most vulnerable.”

Senator Stern Secures Approval for State to Examine, Make Recommendations on Mental Health Care Delivery and Conservatorships for Gravely Disabled

SACRAMENTO – The Joint Legislative Audit Committee (JLAC) yesterday approved a request submitted by a coalition of legislators to examine county practices and make recommendations for treating the gravely disabled. Submitted by Senators Henry Stern, John Moorlach and Scott Wiener and Assemblymembers Phillip Chen, Laura Friedman and Miguel Santiago, the audit will provide critical insight into the application of the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act by Los Angeles County and two other counties selected by the State Auditor.

Senator Stern’s Bill to Add Teeth to Human Trafficking Laws Receives Governor’s Signature

SACRAMENTO – Senator Henry Stern’s SB 630 was signed on Monday by Governor Newsom.
