Governor signs landmark bill to submeter all new apartments, multifamily residences

SACRAMENTO – Today, after a four-year effort, the Governor signed a landmark measure by Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) to encourage responsible water use and conservation by requiring water meters and submeters in new apartment and other multifamily residential buildings.

San Diego, CA… State Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) announced that Senate Bill 1074 has been signed into law by the Governor.  This bill helps existing geothermal plants operating in disadvantaged communities by funding innovative minerals extraction techniques at those facilities has made its way to the Governor’s desk.

Theatre and Dance Act Signed by Governor

Sacramento, CA – Legislation authored by Senator Ben Allen (D – Santa Monica) to establish single-subject teaching credentials for theatre and for dance was signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown today.
“California is the arts and entertainment capital of the world, yet we are one of only two states in the country that does not authorize teaching credentials in theatre or dance,” Allen said.  “I am so pleased that we have finally elevated these two important disciplines to the stature they deserve,” he added.

Dodd urges Governor to support farmworkers

NAPA, CA – Assemblymember Bill Dodd (D-Napa) urged Governor Jerry Brown this week to increase support for farmworker housing in the 2017-18 state budget.

SACRAMENTO – Advancing the vision of a private blue-ribbon commission’s recommendations to reinvigorate the California state park experience for generations to come, Gov. Jerry Brown has signed a bill by Senator Fran Pavley to enable the Department of Parks and Recreation to enter into partnership with a nonprofit entity to conduct such functions as raising private funds to improve parks and marketing the parks to promote increased public visitation.

Gov. Brown signs bill by Senator Pavley to improve services to guide dog users

SACRAMENTO – A bill authored by Senator Fran Pavley to improve services for blind and visually impaired Californians who partner with guide dogs has been signed by Gov. Jerry Brown.

Sponsored by the California Council of the Blind, SB 1331 would implement reforms in the composition and policies of the State Board of Guide Dogs for the Blind.

New law will help water suppliers measure energy use, take action to reduce climate pollution

SACRAMENTO – The California Energy Commission estimates that about 20 percent of all electrical power in the state is used to produce, transport, treat, deliver and heat water. Under SB 1425 by Senator Fran Pavley signed by Gov. Jerry Brown, CalEPA will for the first time develop a registry that will help water suppliers determine the amount of greenhouse gas emissions that result from their activities and to voluntarily take action to reduce emissions.
