California Hospital Association praises him as a “true champion for patients and healthcare providers”

(Riverside, CA) – Senator Richard D. Roth (D-Riverside) has been awarded the 2016 Public Service Award by the California Hospital Association.

SAN JOSE – In agreements brokered by Sen. Jim Beall, the state will give Santa Clara County up to $4.9 million to help resolve two long-standing problems plaguing the community -- highway blight and the high unemployment rate for people released on probation.

Sacramento – State Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont), who has successfully brought relief for low-income Californians fighting wage garnishment in the past, is now setting his sights on assisting private student loan borrowers by lowering the amount that can be taken from their paychecks to the same level as federal loan borrowers.  The senator introduced SB 16 yesterday, the first day of the legislative session.

SACRAMENTO, CA – State Senator Bill Dodd (D-Napa) recently introduced new legislation to protect victims of mass fraud and identity theft. The introduction of this legislation comes following the recent Wells Fargo scandal where millions of accounts were fraudulently opened without consent, using consumer’s personal information from existing accounts. Dodd’s bill would help victims by eliminating the use of forced arbitration clauses in contracts that were fraudulently created. Such contracts prevent consumers from having their day in court to recover damages.

SACRAMENTO – On the first day of the 2017-2018 legislative session, Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) today introduced important legislation to protect school children from dangerous sex offenders.  Specifically, SB 26 would prohibit registered sex offenders from entering school campuses in California.

Legislation that would rejuvenate California’s aging transportation infrastructure while sustaining over 550,000 jobs was introduced today by Senator Jim Beall.

“Without action soon, our crumbling roads will severely affect California’s economy,’’ said Beall, the immediate past chair of the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee. “Long commutes affect the hiring and retention of employees, forcing more workers to leave the state.
