The California Senate Delegation to the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 26) in Glasgow met virtually with California-based reporters Monday to discuss their trip, how California continues to lead the nation and world in addressing the climate emergency and what they hope to learn and bring back to the Legislature for consideration in 2022.

SONOMA – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, will host a virtual town hall Nov. 16 on police reform and racial justice featuring two longtime champions of both, California Secretary of State Shirley Weber and Sen. Steven Bradford.

The town hall will be streamed live over multiple channels and broadcast on KSVY Sonoma. Panelists will take live and submitted questions.

LOS ANGELES – The California Public Utilities Commission (PUC) voted 4-0 to increase the natural storage capacity of the Aliso Canyon Natural Gas Storage Facility by over 20 percent.  Currently, the facility is capped at 34 billion cubic feet (bcf) of natural gas storage, but the new decision will raise this to 41.16 bcf.  Citing the possibility of an exceptionally cold winter season in Southern California, the PUC stated that natural gas demand could constrain supply, despite the state’s aggressive climate and energy goals.

In a press conference at the UN Climate Conference today, Senator Josh Becker reviewed the past, present and future of California climate policy and announced two major initiatives for the upcoming legislative session.
After reviewing California’s leadership, he concluded that he’s proud that “since 2000, California has reduced its emissions per capita by more than 20% while at the same time growing our economy by more than 60%.”
