Assembly Passes Senator Wiener’s Light Touch Density Legislation

SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) legislation, Senate Bill 10, passed the Assembly. SB 10 creates a voluntary, streamlined process for cities to zone for missing middle multi-unit housing. The bill passed with a bipartisan vote of 41-9, and will now be returned to the Senate for final approval before heading to Governor Newsom’s desk.

SACRAMENTO – State Senator Bob Wieckowski’s (D-Fremont) SB 274, a bill to modernize and increase local government transparency policies by requiring agencies to email agenda packets to people who request them, won approval on the Assembly floor today with bipartisan support. The bill now goes to Governor Gavin Newsom for his consideration. It is supported by the Los Angeles Sunshine Coalition and a number of media organizations.

Senator Dave Min to Present $15 Million Check for Wildfire Preparedness

IRVINE, CA — Senator Dave Min (D-Irvine) will present a $15 million check to fire officials, SoCal Edison representatives and Dr. Neal Driscoll of University of California, San Diego and Scripps College on Aug. 27. The funds support the Phase 2 expansion of the ALERTWildfire program, which deployed 700 remote cameras to provide early detection for wildfires and has been seen as greatly successful in preventing wildfires.

Senate Labor Chair Dave Cortese Issues Statement on Prop. 22 Being Ruled Unconstitutional

State Senator Dave Cortese (D-San Jose), chair of the California Senate Labor, Public Employment and Retirement Committee issued the below statement after a California Judge today ruled Proposition 22 unconstitutional.
Proposition 22 is a California ballot initiative that passed in the November 2020 General Election that exempts app-based transportation and delivery employers from providing the employee benefits that are granted under Assembly Bill 5, including collective bargaining rights, paid sick leave, and workers compensation.

Legislature Approves Sen. Dodd’s Bill to Encourage City-Centered Growth

SACRAMENTO – A bill from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, to extend a pilot program in Napa and San Bernardino counties that helps prevent urban sprawl and protects natural resources has cleared the Legislature today and heads to Gov. Gavin Newsom for his signature.
