LOS BANOS, CA – Flanked by water officials and agriculture advocates at San Luis Reservoir, Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger) today called on dramatically increased investment in California’s water infrastructure in the face of crippling, ongoing drought conditions. Hurtado’s comments come 59 years to the day after President John F. Kennedy dedicated San Luis Reservoir in 1962.

Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) and Senator Scott Wilk (R – Santa Clarita) announced the decision by the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) to restrict the number of investments and holdings they have in the Republic of Turkey. CalPERS is the largest defined-benefit public pension in the United States.

SACRAMENTO – It was three years ago when entrepreneurs, seizing on the growing popularity of bubble tea, formed the US Boba Company and opened their own boba factory in Hayward. Today, the manufacturer of the tapioca pearls will be honored in the state capital as the Small Business of the Year by state Senator Bob Wieckowski.

The ceremony is part of California Small Business Day, an annual event organized by the California Small Business Association to honor the contributions of small businesses.  Awardees from each legislative district are recognized during the ceremony.

Senator Dave Cortese (D-San Jose) has selected local small business, Holy Cannoli San Jose, as his “Small Business of the Year” in honor of California Small Business Day™ 2021. Cortese will present a Senate Resolution to Holy Cannoli Chef and Owner Jamie Whitmire at today’s Small Business Day celebrations in Sacramento.
Holy Cannoli was set for their grand opening on March 17th of 2020, only a few days after shelter in place and local health orders went into effect in Santa Clara County.

Sacramento, Calif. – On August 13, 2021, Senator Lena A. Gonzalez (D-Long Beach) presented checks to the City of Long Beach, Centro CHA Inc. and TCC Family Health totaling $14.5 million in funds dedicated to park rehabilitation, inclusive workforce development and health and wellness services in Central Long Beach. Funding for these projects was provided from state budget discretionary funds with support from Senator Gonzalez.
