FREMONT – State Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) released the following statement on the passing of Donna Olsen, a Fremont community activist and founder of the Tri-City Ecology Center. She died yesterday morning at the age of 88.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Assemblymember James C. Ramos (D-Highland) yesterday asked the Legislature’s administrative committees to obtain input from an advisory group that includes historians and California Native Americans before determining the fate of the Junípero Serra statue taken down on Capitol grounds by protestors on July 4.

The Serra sculpture was placed in Capitol Park after the state approved legislation by then-San Francisco Assemblymember Milton Marks in 1965. His law, AB 1124, authorized the purchase and maintenance of the memorial.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Senate Susan Rubio today announced that a City of La Puente student was awarded a $5,000 scholarship through the California Latino Legislative Caucus Foundation (CLLCF). 

Senator Rubio selected Areli Patino as one of this year’s recipients. Areli will be attending the University of California, Los Angeles. 

SACRAMENTO – Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) issued the following statement after the California State Auditor today released an audit report examining the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) mobilehome park and complaint inspection process:

Senator Hurtado Joins City of Sanger in hosting a ribbon cutting to celebrate the new operations of the city’s new water systems and holding tank. The 750,000 gallon tank, nitrate blending station and booster pumps is a joint project with the California Division of Drinking Water and the U.S Economic Development Administration to help the city to serve the residents with clean water.  With $4 million secured through State investments, this project took about a year to complete.

SAN FRANCISCO - Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) released the following statement regarding the International AIDS Conference, largely taking place virtually this year but based in San Francisco. The Conference was last held in San Francisco in 1990.

With so much loss, some homeowners turned to contractors offering great deals, but they had no experience building homes. 

CALIFORNIA- On July 3, 2019, the inaugural CROWN Act was signed into law in California, making it illegal to discriminate against natural hair and protective styles like braids, locs, twists and knots. Today, marks one year since California put an end to hair discrimination with the CROWN Act (Create a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural Hair) authored by Senator Holly J. Mitchell. The signing of the CROWN Act sparked an international movement, with seven states following in suit and many others in the process of putting an end to hair discrimination.
