CA State Senate Bends the Arc Towards Justice with Passage of ACA 5

SACRAMENTO- Today the CA State Senate passed ACA 5 to reverse 25 years of institutional and educational barriers resulting from the passage of Proposition 209. The collective actions against inequality and injustice that we’ve seen around the world represent an urgent call for systemic change. We must be affirmative in our actions we take to bend the arc towards justice. It’s time for a new generation of California’s voters to stand up and advance equity.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Steve Glazer, D-Contra Costa, released this statement on the Senate’s consideration of ACA 5:

I have fought all of my life to try to ensure that no one was discriminated against because of race, sex or national origin.

Recently, I have watched with anger as top officials in this country appealed to anti-Asian sentiments to try to win favor or cast aspersions; a disgraceful practice from California and American history. 

Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, announced today that the Senate Committee on Public Safety will hold an oversight hearing on the Covid-19 outbreak in California prisons on Wednesday, July 1, 2020. The hearing will focus on the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s (CDCR) current and future plans for handling of the outbreak, which has now spread to at least 19 state correctional facilities.
