Senator Portantino Authors Bill to Help Glendale Community College Offset April 24th Campus Closing Costs

Sacramento, California – At the request of Glendale Community College, Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D–La Cañada Flintridge) introduced legislation to help the college offset revenue losses associated with closing on April 24th.  This date is important to the Armenian community as it commemorates the Armenian Genocide where 1.5 million Armenians were killed. The Glendale Unified School District and Glendale Community College close on this day.

Assembly Judiciary Committee approves Wieckowski, Hertzberg arbitration bill

SACRAMENTO – A bill jointly authored by Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) and Senate Majority Leader Bob Hertzberg (D-Van Nuys) to deter companies from withholding payment to arbitrators to obstruct the arbitration process and deny workers and consumers their rights, was approved this morning by the Assembly Judiciary Committee.  The bill, SB 707, now heads to the Assembly floor.

Sen. Dodd’s College Student Food Insecurity Bill Advances

SACRAMENTO – Low-income college students would have reliable access to nutritious food through the Cal Fresh program under a bill from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that cleared the Assembly’s Human Services committee today.

“Students shouldn’t have to starve in order to get an education,”  Sen. Dodd said. “Hunger is a serious problem on California college campuses today. My bill will ensure students of modest means don’t go hungry by making it easier for them to receive public assistance.”

Lawmakers Approve Sen. Dodd’s Plan to Improve Water Management

SACRAMENTO –Legislation from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that would help California manage its water, protecting the precious resource for people and the environment, cleared a key committee today.

“This bill is an important step toward managing our water for the long run,” Sen. Dodd said. “‘You can’t manage what you don’t measure. Stream gages provide important information in this era of droughts and flooding, driven in part by climate change.”
