Watch, see the opening statement by Sen. Holly J. Mitchell, chair of the Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee, on the 2019-20 Budget Conference Committee. The committee approved the budget shortly afterward. It now faces a full vote by the Legislature and, if approved, will go to Gov. Gavin Newsom.

"As leaders of the Assembly and the Senate, we are deeply concerned about the statewide strike called by the National Union of Healthcare Workers in its contract negotiations with Kaiser Permanente.

"This will be extraordinarily disruptive. We cannot underestimate the impact of 3,500 mental health caregivers not showing up to provide care to millions of Kaiser patients who depend on it.

SONOMA – Sonoma Ecology Center, which has a nearly 30-year history of environmental stewardship and preservation in the Sonoma Valley, and most recently has taken leadership roles in regional wildfire recovery and the transition of Sonoma Developmental Center to local control, has been named Nonprofit of the Year by Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa.

SACRAMENTO – Downtown Streets Team Hayward (DST), an organization dedicated to ending homelessness and empowering unhoused men and women, was honored today by Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) as the Nonprofit of the Year for District 10 during the annual California Nonprofits Day Luncheon on the South Lawn of the state Capitol.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) today recognized Project Sister (Sisters In Service To End Rape) Family Services in Pomona as the 20th State Senate District “Nonprofit of the Year” for 2019.

Sacramento, California – Today, Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D–La Cañada Flintridge) honored Arlington Garden as the 25th State Senate District 2019 Non-Profit of the Year.  Leigh Talmo, Arlington Garden’s head gardener, flew to Sacramento to receive the award on behalf of Arlington Garden. Earlier this year, Senator Portantino held a 710 EIR press conference at the garden where the end of the 710 tunnel was formally announced.  Arlington Garden hopes to purchase land from Caltrans as state-owned properties are sold.
