SACRAMENTO – The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) released their annual immunization assessment today, showing that the percentage of Kindergartners with permanent medical exemptions have risen once again from 0.2 percent prior to the passage of SB 277 in 2015, to 0.9 percent this year.

SACRAMENTO – Senate Majority Leader Bob Hertzberg (D-Van Nuys) announced today that he has named Exceptional Minds as Senate District 18’s Nonprofit of the Year.

Exceptional Minds is a Los Angeles-based nonprofit training academy and professional studio with a mission to prepare individuals on the autism spectrum for careers in the fields of visual effects, animation, and video game rigging animation.

SACRAMENTO – Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins today honored the San Diego chapter of International Rescue Committee (IRC) as Nonprofit of the Year for 2019 in District 39.

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, will convene a senate select committee hearing on June 10 to review, vet and accept public comment on the Catastrophic Wildfire Cost and Recovery Commission’s report, released last week.

SACRAMENTO – California Senator María Elena Durazo (D-Los Ángeles) issued the following statement on the results of the 2019 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count:

“Homelessness is a chronic issue that requires massive local resources and services across all of California. In Los Angeles County, the number of people experiencing homelessness rose 12% from last year. These numbers are an overwhelming reminder that we must act more forcefully and comprehensively to end the homelessness epidemic...

Sacramento–  Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) issued the following statement upon the San Francisco Board of Supervisors’ vote to implement Senator Wiener’s Senate Bill 1045, which he authored in 2018. SB 1045 allows San Francisco to conserve people on our streets who are suffering from severe mental illness and addiction and who are not capable of accepting voluntary services. This year, Senator Wiener is authoring SB 40 to ensure that SB 1045 can be effectively implemented.

SACRAMENTO – Legislation authored by Senator Ben Allen (D - Santa Monica) and Senator Scott Wiener (D- San Francisco) to repeal Article 34 of the California Constitution passed the Senate Housing Committee today on a vote of 9 - 0.  The bill is sponsored by Mayor Eric Garcetti and the City of Los Angeles, and supported by the California Association of Realtors and numerous housing advocacy organizations.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Henry Stern today joined a bipartisan group of legislators announcing a new Legislative Substance Abuse Treatment Working Group formed to address the challenges confronting California’s addiction treatment industry. Members include Senators Stern, Patricia Bates and Jerry Hill, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, Chair of the Accountability & Administrative Review Committee, and Assemblymembers Richard Bloom, Tasha Boerner Horvath, William P. Brough, Tom Daly, Kevin McCarty and Marie Waldron.
