Sen. Dodd: June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month

SACRAMENTO – In recognition of a serious and growing crisis in California, Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, announced today the Senate has approved a resolution designating June as Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Awareness month.

“Sadly, not a day goes by without reports of horrific cases of abuse or exploitation of the elderly or adults with disabilities,” Sen. Dodd said. “Recognizing the pervasive nature of this problem as well as the warning signs is a key step toward prevention.”

California Medical Board Supports Enabling Investigation of Doctors Granting Fake Medical Exemptions

SACRAMENTO – As our country is experiencing the greatest number of measles infections in 25 years – 940 cases this year to date – the California Medical Board voted on Tuesday to support requirements in SB 276 that there is a review of medical exemptions and allow the Medical Board to receive medical exemption data to allow investigations of unscrupulous physicians.

Senate passes Wieckowski bill to prevent debt collectors from zeroing out Californians' bank accounts

SACRAMENTO – Californians living paycheck-to-paycheck would no longer lose all their money to aggressive debt collectors under a bill passed today by the California Senate.  SB 616, authored by Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) prevents collectors from levying the last $2,000 in an account.  The bill now heads to the Assembly.

Senate Approves Leyva Bill Requiring Smog Checks for Big Rig Trucks

SACRAMENTO – Earlier today, the California State Senate approved legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will establish ‘smog check’ requirements for heavy-duty diesel trucks in California. Unlike personal vehicles, current law does not require heavy-duty vehicles to have the same types of smog checks that have been required for passenger vehicles for decades.
