Sen. Dodd’s Elder Abandonment Prevention Bill Clears Hurdle

SACRAMENTO – Legislation inspired by the 2017 wildfires from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that would ramp up penalties for caregivers who desert elders during emergencies cleared a key committee today on a unanimous vote.

“We simply cannot allow our seniors to be left behind to fend for themselves when disaster strikes,” Sen. Dodd said. “They must be protected, especially with the growing wildfire threat. This bill penalizes caretakers who shirk their responsibilities and encourages more people to do the right thing.”

SACRAMENTO – Senator Anna M. Caballero today announced that Senate Bill 386 will be a two-year bill.  In making SB 386 a two-year bill, Senator Caballero stated, “As a representative of Senate District 12, my goal is to fight poverty and to fight for equity for disadvantaged communities. For decades, the poorest communities in California have carried both the environmental and financial burden of climate change. California’s renewable energy goals are laudable, but they should take into account the different ways in which our most disadvantaged communities are affected.”

California State Senate Approves SB 230, the Bill Now Moves to the Assembly

SACRAMENTO – Senate Bill 230, by Senator Anna Caballero (D-Salinas) unanimously passed the state Senate on a 38-0 vote. SB 230 is a comprehensive measure that would require every law enforcement officer to be trained in techniques to reduce the need for deadly force. The bill will ensure California leads the nation in regards to departmental use of force policies, ensures robust officer training, and reaffirms a commitment to protecting the sanctity of life.

Sen. Dodd Issues Statement on Gov. Newsom's Support for Horse Racing Bill

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, issued the following statement today in response to the announce from Gov. Gavin Newsom that he was supporting Sen. Dodd’s bill, Senate Bill 469, which would authorize the suspension of racing at tracks where dangerous conditions exist. The proposal comes amid a spate of horse deaths at Santa Anita Park.

“I appreciate Gov. Newsom for stepping up and being proactive to support my bill,” Sen. Dodd said. “This is much-needed and commonsense legislation to protect horses and riders.”
