However, today’s State of the State speech by Governor Gavin Newsom demonstrates his enthusiasm to collaborate across the state. I am beyond excited that he has highlighted our communities and recognizes that an investment in the Central Valley, is an investment for all of California.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger) introduced legislation to help Californians keep health coverage during life transitions.  

SB 260 will require health plans and insurers to give consumers who lose their coverage for any reason notices of the availability of Medi-Cal and Covered California coverage. The bill will also make it easier for Covered California to reach out to consumers, who have lost their coverage to help minimize gaps in their coverage.

SACRAMENTO – The California Senate today approved $5 million to support nonprofit organizations that are currently responding to humanitarian immigration emergencies, such as the one in San Diego involving thousands of migrant families seeking asylum in the United States.

Measure Provides $50 million for Emergency Preparedness, Backfills Local Property Tax Revenue Losses, and Begins Updates to 911 Emergency Phone System

SACRAMENTO – The California State Senate has approved AB 72, amending the Budget Act of 2018, authorizing funds to improve emergency preparedness and restore local tax revenue lost as a result of wildfires. The measure passed unanimously and now awaits the Governor’s signature.

SACRAMENTO – The Western Association for College Admission Counseling, the largest college admissions professional organization in the state of California, announced today that they have named Dr. Richard Pan, State Senator, as their 2019 Legislator of the Year.

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, issued the following statement today on an announcement from Pacific Gas and Electric Corp. that a majority of its governing board would be leaving at the next annual shareholders’ meeting on May 21:

“While the change in the board is welcome, it’s still taken way too long,” said Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa. “And it doesn’t make sense to wait another day on these changes with another fire season on the horizon. Time will tell if this new leadership instills the badly needed culture of safety at PG&E.”
