San Francisco –  Today, the California League of Conservation Voters, the Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California (NPH), and Habitat for Humanity announced their support for Senator Scott Wiener’s Senate Bill 50, the More HOMES Act. NPH - which is a coalition of 750 affordable housing organizations - also signed on as a co-sponsor of SB 50, joining co-sponsor California YIMBY.

Senator Portantino Continues Leadership On Gun Safety Authors SB 172 Promoting Safe Home Storage of Firearms

Sacramento, California -  Early in the 2019 legislative session Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D–La Cañada Flintridge) is continuing his leadership for sensible gun control. This week, he introduced SB 172, which would require stronger storage safety of all firearms within the home. Specifically, the bill would make it a crime of criminal storage if an unloaded or loaded firearm were present in the home of a minor or a prohibited person and not safely stored.

SACRAMENTO – With the threat of wildfires, mudslides and other disasters posed by climate change expected to worsen, State Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) today announced new legislation to create a position of chief officer of climate adaptation and resilience.  The chief officer would be appointed by the Governor and lead climate adaptation action out of the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research, under Wieckowski’s SB 168.
