Governor Brown signed bills by Senator Jerry Hill Saturday to increase wheelchair users’ access to transportation network company services and to help ease the property tax burden for nonprofits that privately fund and provide affordable housing. “Senate Bill 1376, the TNC Access for All Act, ensures that Californians with disabilities have access to transportation network company services,” said Senator Jerry Hill. “SB 1115 aids nonprofits and religious organizations that are working to address our housing crisis by privately funding and providing affordable housing,”

Sacramento, CA — Today Governor Brown signed State Senator Nancy Skinner’s (D-Berkeley) SB 1164, the “Craft Distiller Op-pour-tunity” Act. SB 1164 loosens restrictions so that California’s small batch craft distillers have more leeway to produce and sell their creations—a change sure to lift the spirits of artisanal producers.

Under Senate Bill 1402, retailers could face joint liability when hiring trucking companies that break state labor laws

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today Governor Brown signed Senate Bill 1402, authored by Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) to end more than a decade of exploitation of truck drivers who haul cargo from California’s ports.

Governor Brown signed legislation today by Senator Jerry Hill to protect minors from being forced into marriage or a domestic partnership – especially those that may result from physical force or abuse, or could place a minor at risk for abuse.

The new law will prevent people from being trapped in their garages during power failures such as those triggered by recent wildfires.

“Despite heavy insurance industry lobbying, I’m proud to say we have a new law that will help people rebuild their homes quickly and help communities recover,” Senator Dodd said. “I fought for greater reforms and I will continue my efforts to prevent insurance companies from denying policyholders the coverage they’ve paid for and deserve.”

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today Governor Brown signed Senate Bill 30, the nation’s first law to explore using insurance to protect the state’s forests and wetlands that guard communities from the impact of climate change.

SB 30 orders the Department of Insurance to create a working group to recommend market-based policies that protect California’s “natural infrastructure” to reduce the severity of climate-related disasters.
