SAN JOSE –  Senator Jim Beall, chairman of the Senate’s Select Committee on Mental Health, issued this statement regarding Governor Brown’s veto of SB 906, legislation to institute statewide standards for peer providers specialists to expand support for people battling mental disorders or substance abuse through those who have experienced and conquered those same illnesses.

“It is vital that we lift the barriers for students with serious medical conditions who rely on medical cannabis to attend school,” said Senator Hill, D-San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. “Making it easier for these children and teens to get the medicine they need without disrupting their school day remains important to me."

Sacramento, CA – September 28, 2018 – This afternoon Governor Brown signed legislation authored by Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) and sponsored by the City of San Diego that would provide state resources for disadvantaged communities designated within California’s Promise Zones and Opportunity Zones. Senate Bill No. 635 received bipartisan and bicameral support in the Legislature and becomes effective January 1, 2019.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Bob Hertzberg (D-Van Nuys) today announced that a pair of his bills to help government keep up with technology were signed by Governor Jerry Brown. SB 1001, the B.O.T Act of 2018 (Bolstering Online Transparency), will require automated online accounts, or bots, to be identified. SB 838 will authorize the use of blockchain technology for corporate share certificates in California.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today Governor Brown signed the Privacy Protection Act, Senate Bill 244, which limits the collection and disclosure of personal information obtained by a local or state agency for purposes of issuing a local identification card, driver's license, or county clinic health services.

Sacramento, California – Today, Governor Jerry Brown signed SB 1100 authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino, D–La Cañada Flintridge. SB 1100 will prohibit the sale or transfer of any firearm by a licensed dealer, except as specially exempted, to any person below the age of 21 years.

SACRAMENTO – Gov. Brown signed legislation Friday from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that will prevent low-income families from getting their water service terminated.

“Access to water is a fundamental right of all Californians. I thank Gov. Brown for helping to protect it now and for future generations,” Sen. Dodd said. “This new law creates a sustainable and equitable delivery system that will protect vulnerable people including seniors, children and those with illness or disability.”
