Governor Vetoes Senate Bill 1303 Which Would Have Required Medical Experts Conduct Autopsies

SACRAMENTO, CA –Senate Bill 1303, authored by Dr. Richard Pan to require autopsies be conducted by medical experts to ensure they are accurate and unbiased was vetoed by Governor Brown on Tuesday.

Specifically, the bill would have required a county to establish a medical examiner’s office in lieu of a sheriff-coroner office or institute a policy to refer the manner and type of death investigation to another California county that implements a medical examiner model in cases where there is a conflict of interest for the sheriff-coroner.

Senator Hueso’s Elder Abuse Bill Signed into Law

Governor Signs Bill to Ensure That $1M+ Settlements of Construction Defect Lawsuits Involving Apartment Balconies are Reported to Regulators

Starting January 1, contractors who pay a million dollars or more to settle construction defect lawsuits involving apartment balconies and other load-bearing structural elements must report those deals to the Contractors State License Board, under legislation signed today by Governor  Brown. His approval of Senate Bill 1465 came just one day after he signed SB 721, which sets requirements for periodic inspections of balconies, decks, outdoor stairs, walkways and other load-bearing, elevated exterior elements at apartment buildings and complexes.

Sacramento, CA — Today, Governor Jerry Brown signed Senator Nancy Skinner’s (D-Berkeley) SB 1138, “Ensuring a Plant Based Meal Option,” requiring hospitals, healthcare facilities and prisons to offer plant-based meals to people in these institutions.

Legislation Requiring Healthful Default Beverages in Children’s Meals Signed by Governor

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) announced that Senate Bill (SB) 1192 has been signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown.  

 

SB 1192 requires a restaurant, which serves a meal primarily targeted and marketed to children, to make the default drink option served in bundled meals a healthful beverage - water, sparkling water, flavored water with no added sweeteners, or milk.
