(SACRAMENTO) – In an 8 to 0 vote, SB 1238 – authored by Senator Richard D. Roth (D-Riverside) – cleared the Senate Health Committee. The Medical Records Protection Act establishes a patient’s right to access their medical records before they are destroyed.

(SACRAMENTO) – Today, California took another step in the ongoing fight against human trafficking. SB 1104 – which will require schools to share human trafficking prevention resources with parents and guardians – cleared the Senate Education Committee with unanimous support.

SACRAMENTO – With unanimous support, the Senate Health Committee today approved SB 1041 by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that would help ensure that children at risk of lead exposure receive blood lead screening tests.

At an afternoon press conference today, State Senator Cathleen Galgiani was joined by Stanislaus and San Joaquin county law enforcement officials along with friends and family members of murder victims Phil and Kathryn Ranzo, to ask Governor Jerry Brown to overturn the parole of Ronald Ray Anderson.

SACRAMENTO – The Senate Health Committee approved the passage of Senate Bill 1108, which prohibits work requirements as a condition of Medi-Cal eligibility, by a vote of 8-1. Authored by Senator Ed Hernandez, O.D.

State Senator Jerry Hill introduced legislation today to prohibit housing discrimination against U.S. military veterans and individuals currently serving in the nation’s armed forces. U.S. veterans and military personnel are protected from employment discrimination by the California Fair Employment and Housing Act. However, the law does not specifically include veterans or military personnel among those who are protected from housing discrimination. Senator Hill’s SB 1427 would address that gap.

Power at its best, Dr. King says, is love implementing the demands of justice and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love. In today’s climate, Dr. King’s message is just as relevant.

Sacramento – California has over 2,000 independent special districts that operate a slew of vital services for millions of Californians, such as water, wastewater, fire protection, parks, and transit. However, less than half of all special districts have websites. This presents a significant transparency gap for the millions who are served by these districts.
