State Senator Jerry Hill introduced legislation today to drive home the point to young people that it’s illegal to consume marijuana and get behind the wheel. SB 1273 establishes a zero-tolerance policy for individuals under 21 who drive with marijuana in their systemmarijuana, and mirrors existing law for young adults and minors who drive after consuming alcohol.

Senator Bradford Continues Efforts to End the Practice of Patient Brokering with SB 1268

SACRAMENTO ­– Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena) has introduced Senate Bill 1268. This bill, sponsored by the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals, prohibits the practice of “selling” patients to addiction recovery and treatment programs. This practice, commonly known as “patient brokering” or “body brokering” occurs when compensation is given to a person or company for referring patients to a substance abuse treatment program.

California to Ban Wasteful Take-Out Food Packaging at State Parks and Beaches

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, Senator Ben Allen (D - Santa Monica) introduced legislation to reduce waste generated by take-out food packaging at state parks, beaches, and facilities.  SB 1335 would require that all take-out food containers sold at these public places be recyclable or compostable in the jurisdiction in which it is provided by January 1, 2021.
