Senator Newman steps in as Chair of San Gabriel Valley Legislative Caucus

Sacramento, CASenator Josh Newman will Chair his first meeting of the San Gabriel Valley Legislative Caucus today. Newman was elected chair by his colleagues from the San Gabriel Valley at a meeting of the Caucus in May. He succeeds Senator Ed Hernandez, who will serve as Vice Chair.

Sacramento, CA – Last week, Senator Mike McGuire testified in front of the State Allocations Board in support of state funding for construction plans for improvements to Trinity County schools that have been infested by mold, threatening the health and safety of students. The State Allocation Board approved hardship appeals to the impacted school districts to begin the design process to upgrade their campuses into safe and modern learning environments.

California Mayors Support Senator Wiener’s SB 35 to Create More Housing

Sacramento –  Today Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) announced that Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo have endorsed SB 35, joining early supporters San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, and Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg. SB 35 will create a streamlined approval process for housing in cities that are not meeting their housing goals required by the Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA).

Senator Henry Stern Pushes to Expand Capitol Bike Share Program Statewide

SACRAMENTO State Senator Henry Stern teamed up with a coalition of bike share advocates and elected officials for a ride across the State Capitol yesterday afternoon in support of an initiative to spread bike share programs statewide. The bill, Senate Bill 702, is authored by Senator Stern and would expand the Capitol bike share program that allows state employees to rent a bicycle for free for trips during the day to other locations in the state.
