Governor Signs Bill Giving Homeless Youth Access to High School Equivalency Exams

SACRAMENTO – Gov. Jerry Brown has signed legislation authored by Senator Mark Leno that gives homeless youth in California greater access to the high school proficiency and equivalency exams. Senate Bill 252 prohibits the Department of Education and testing companies from charging an exam fee to young people who are homeless.

Governor signs Sen. Bob Hertzberg plan allowing motorists to fight tickets before paying fines

SACRAMENTO – Gov. Brown today endorsed another traffic-fine proposal by Sen. Bob Hertzberg to help working families, strengthen the economy and increase public safety by making it easier for working Californians to live with skyrocketing costs for minor tickets.
The most recent step came today when Gov. Brown signed Senate Bill 405, which guarantees Californians the right to challenge many routine traffic tickets without having to first pay the contested fines.

Governor signs plan directing local agencies to make data more accessible to the public

SACRAMENTO – California’s governor today endorsed a plan directing local government agencies to publish catalogs of key computer systems which would be publicly available.
Sponsored by Sen. Bob Hertzberg, D-Van Nuys, the signing of Senate Bill 272 means data gathered internally by local public agencies will be in a more usable format available to the public under the California Public Records Act.

Significant Step in LA River Restoration With State Agreement to Acquire River Parkway

LOS ANGELES – Marking a tremendous step forward in efforts to restore the Los Angeles River, California Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) has announced that the state is providing funds to help purchase the G-2 parcel, also known as the crown jewel of the L.A. River revitalization. In that effort, the state has set aside $25 million in unused park and water bond funds to help acquire this important piece of property.

"California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) is working. We are delivering cleaner air, reduced carbon emissions, and decreasing dependence on fossil fuels. I strongly support the Air Resources Board’s re-adoption of the LCFS, and I urge the Board to continue its pursuit of regulations that decrease our reliance on fossil fuels as the predominant power source for our economy.

Fremont – State Senator Bob Wieckowski’s (D-Fremont) office is holding satellite office hours for constituents throughout the 10th Senate District to meet and resolve issues involving state agencies.
“These satellite office hours will provide a way for people to meet in person with my staff to discuss problems they may be having with a state agency or any other information they need from the state of California,” Wieckowski said.  “Each week, there will be a satellite office open on a rotating basis in the 10th District.”
