Sacramento, CA – Today, President Obama issued a major disaster declaration for the State of California triggering the release of federal funds to help victims of the Valley Fire in Lake County.
Senator Mike McGuire, who represents all of Lake County in the California State Senate, released the following statement:

Merced – State and local government leaders and researchers outlined the many steps that are needed to improve air and water quality in the Central Valley and to assist the nation’s top agricultural region to better prepare for the impacts of climate change, during a hearing today of the state Senate’s Environmental Quality Committee.

“California is a world leader in the fight against climate change. As such, the California Legislature has taken a major step away from coal as an energy source. Our actions are in line with technology, national trends, and policies that point to an undeniable fact – coal is a fading industry.

Leyva (D-Chino) that will protect the voice of students by ensuring a formal and transparent process for both the establishment and removal of a student school board member position on a school district’s governing board.

Both McGuire and Dodd represent the SDC in the California legislature and have spent months working with state and local officials, families and residents to ensure a safe and seamless transition for the nearly 400 people who remain there today and who are some of the most medically fragile in the developmental services system.
