SACRAMENTO – On the first day of the new legislative session, Senator Jim Beall, D-San Jose, introduced bills to increase funding for freeway maintenance and litter removal, and bolster police training to increase officer safety while dealing with people with mental health illnesses.SB 11, a spot bill undergoing preparation for legislative language, focuses on adding more hours to the training of police recruits that will help them defuse potentially volatile encounters with people with mental health disorders.

Senate session was called to order by Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom and remarks were delivered by Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León and Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff.

Senator Hueso Helps Secure $3.3 Million for Salton Sea Species Conservation Habitat Project

(Sacramento, CA) – During a November 20 quarterly meeting, the Wildlife Conservation Board (WCB) approved approximately $26 million in grants to help restore and protect fish and wildlife habitats throughout California. The funds for all these projects come from bond initiatives approved by voters to help preserve and protect California's natural resources. The approved grants include $3.3 million for Salton Sea species and habitat conservation.
