SACRAMENTO – Leaders of the California Assembly and Senate select committees on the state’s $57 billion wine industry will hold a joint informational hearing Oct. 31 in Lodi.

Sens. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, and Mike McGuire, D-Healdsburg, and Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, D-Winters, chair their respective select committees. They will lead a pair of panel discussions, starting with an overview of Central Valley grape production followed by a talk on wine fermentation emissions and related air quality rules under consideration.

SACRAMENTO ­– This year, Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena) continued his efforts championing a multitude of issues impacting not just his constituents, but all Californians.   In total, he was successful at getting 13 bills approved by the Legislature, 10 of which were signed into law by the Governor’s bill signing deadline, which was this past Sunday, October 13th at midnight.

Bay Area Mayors Endorse Senator Wiener’s SB 378 to Limit Planned Blackouts and Protect Residents and Businesses

San Francisco –  Today, San Francisco Mayor London N. Breed, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, and Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguín announced their support for Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Senate Bill 378. SB 378 puts in place reasonable, commonsense mechanisms to ensure that utilities are pursuing planned blackouts with adequate prudence, that utilities aren’t knee-jerk shutting off power to eliminate liability risk, and that the negative consequences of blackouts on local communities are minimized.

Hospitals, Clinics Must Report Allegations of Patient Sexual Abuse Involving Doctors Under Bill by Senator Hill Signed by the Governor

Starting January 1, hospitals, clinics and other health facilities must report allegations of patient sexual abuse and other sexual misconduct by medical professionals to the appropriate state licensing authorities within 15 days of receiving a written complaint from the patient, under legislation signed by Governor Newsom. “The signing of Senate Bill 425 closes the reporting gaps that can keep regulators in the dark for years while shielding bad actors,” said Senator Jerry Hill, who authored the legislation.
