Senate Passes End of Life Option Act

SB 128 now moves on to the Assembly
SACRAMENTO – Senate Bill 128: The End of Life Option Act, by Senators Wolk and Monning, passed off the Senate Floor today with a vote of 23-14. SB 128 would allow mentally capable, terminally ill adults the option to request a doctor’s prescription for aid-in-dying drugs to painlessly and peacefully hasten their dying process.

SB 174 Receives Bi-partisan Support from Senate Human Services Committee

Two-year pilot programs in Sacramento and Yolo Counties to be funded and evaluated
SACRAMENTO—Senate Bill 174, authored by State Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) passed out of the Senate Committee on Human Services with a 5-0 vote.  The bill would establish a two-year pilot project in the County of Sacramento and the County of Yolo for the purpose of evaluating the effectiveness of crisis nurseries in lowering the incidence of child abuse in those counties.

NAPA – Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) will honor Dr. Geni Bennetts of Napa County and Elece Hempel of Sonoma County as the Third Senate District’s Women of the Year.  
Every March, the Senate celebrates Women’s History Month by honoring women whose contributions improve lives in their communities, a tradition dating back to 1987.

New Video Testimony from Brittany Maynard Released Supporting End of Life Option Legislation

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today the family of Brittany Maynard released new video testimony from Brittany in support of aid-in-dying legislation.  Ms. Maynard wrote the testimony and recorded the video for California Legislators before her death in November, 2014.

“End of Life Option Act” Clears First Committee

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Legislation carried by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) and Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) to expand end of life options available to Californians passed out of the Senate Health Committee on a 6 to 2 vote today.  Senate Bill (SB) 128, the End of Life Option Act, will allow a mentally competent, terminally ill adult in California in the final stages of life to request aid-in-dying medication from a physician.  SB 128 now heads to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Legislation carried by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) and Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) to expand the end of life options available to Californians passed out of the Senate Judiciary Committee on a 5 to 2 vote today.  Senate Bill (SB) 128, the End of Life Option Act, will allow a mentally competent adult in the final stages of life due to a terminal illness to request aid-in-dying medication from a physician.  SB 128 now moves on to the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Two drought preparedness water bills pass out of Senate Committees

SACRAMENTO – Two water measures focused on saving water by Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) passed out of committee yesterday.  Both bills received unanimous bipartisan support. These measures are part of a larger effort by Senator Wolk to improve water management, combat the effects of the drought and climate change in California, and conserve valuable water supplies.
