Senator Bradford Introduces Bill to Provide Relief for Responsible Taxpayers

SACRAMENTO ­– Today, Senator Bradford (D- Gardena) introduced SB 1082, sponsored by Board of Equalization Member, Fiona Ma, to grant relief to hardworking Californians who encounter financial hardship. SB 1082 allows the Franchise Tax Board (FTB) to provide a one-time late fee waiver to individuals with a history of on-time, personal income tax payments, aligning our state law with federal tax law.

Senator Bradford’s Turkey Giveaway Provides Over a Thousand Turkeys to Families in Need

INGLEWOOD – Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena) gave away 1,100 free turkeys yesterday to students and families from Senate District 35, comprised of Carson, Compton, Inglewood, Lawndale, Torrance, and the surrounding communities. Senator Bradford, who is finishing his first year in the California State Senate, continued this tradition from when he served as a Gardena City Councilmember and State Assemblymember by providing turkeys so families in need can share a healthy and hearty holiday meal with loved ones.

Senate District 35 Receives Over $11 Million for Green Infrastructure Projects Funded by Cap-and-Trade Revenues

SACRAMENTO ­– Senate District 35 was awarded over $11 million in funding for projects to transform community streets, walkways and parks into green spaces that improve air and water quality and provide greater opportunities for walking, biking and recreation. Governor Brown Signs Bill Incentivizing Child Support Compliance to Combat Poverty

SACRAMENTO ­– Today, Governor Brown signed Senate Bill 380, which modifies the California Work Opportunities and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) program to allow a family to choose whether or not to request CalWORKs aid for a step or half-sibling of an aided child, when the step or half-sibling receives child support payments from a non-custodial parent.

California Eases Worker’s Compensation Requirements for Small Businesses

SB 490 Signed Ensuring Fair Pay for Salon Professionals

SACRAMENTO ­– Today, Governor Brown signed SB 490 into law, which authorizes licensed salon professionals to be paid by commission, as long as they are guaranteed at least twice the state minimum wage. 

“SB 490 allows salon professionals to not only get paid for their services, but also compensated for selling products that boost the bottom line for the salons where they work,” said Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena).  “It is only fair that salon professionals be compensated for the business they bring to their respective salons.”

Governor Signs SB 620 Allowing Judges to Strike Unwarranted Sentence Enhancements

SACRAMENTO – This afternoon, Governor Brown signed Senate Bill 620 into law, updating mandated sentencing enhancements for felony cases in which a firearm was used.  This bill, sponsored by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of California, changes current law which prohibits judges from striking or dismissing a firearm sentence enhancement and allows judges to determine on a case-by-case basis as to whether or not a 10-year, 20-year or life-term extension is justified.

Governor Signs Bradford Bill to Help Schools, Parents and Students with Inter-District Transfers
