Senator Bradford Approves California State Budget -Securing Millions for Senate District 35

 

SACRAMENTO ­– Recently, the Budget Bill for fiscal year 2019-2020 was passed by the Senate and Assembly after long negotiations between both houses and the Governor’s Administration. The new budget includes the state’s largest reserves in history, pays down billions of dollars to our state’s pension debt, and prioritizes one-time investments aimed at tackling the main issues driving California’s affordability crisis.

Assembly and Senate Approves SB 206 the Fair Pay to Play Act

 

SACREAMENTO ­– Yesterday, Senate Bill 206, authored by Senator Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) and Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena), was approved by the California State Senate with unanimous support. SB 206, known as the Fair Pay to Play Act, will give California student athletes the right to their name, image, and likeness, allowing them to earn money from sponsorships, endorsements and other activities.

SACRAMENTO ­– This year, Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena) continued his efforts championing a multitude of issues impacting not just his constituents, but all Californians.   In total, he was successful at getting 13 bills approved by the Legislature, 10 of which were signed into law by the Governor’s bill signing deadline, which was this past Sunday, October 13th at midnight.

SACRAMENTO ­– Yesterday, Senator Bradford honored Ms. Michelle Smith-Ballard, as the Woman of the Year for the 35th Senate District. Ms. Smith-Ballard currently serves as the Vice President of Community and Citizenship for Turner Construction Company with over 38 years of construction experience. She is responsible for the diversity outreach program on the construction of the new, state of the art Los Angeles Stadium and Entertainment District at Hollywood Park in Inglewood where she is overseeing one of the largest diversity and local hire programs in the region.

The Select Committee will examine the challenges currently facing African American, Latino, Native American and Asian/Pacific Islander boys and men in California, and will focus on developing strategies that yield positive outcomes.

Senate Approves California’s First Statewide Cannabis Equity Bill

SACRAMENTO ­– This week, Senate Bill 1294, the Cannabis Collaboration and Inclusion Act, was approved on the Senate Floor. This bill, authored by Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena), will guide the formation and development of California’s first statewide cannabis equity program, while supporting local jurisdictions such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland and Sacramento that have established local equity programs.
