Senator Wiener and Assemblymember Haney Introduce Bill Allowing Cities to Extend Last Call to 4 AM

SACRAMENTO –  Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Assemblymember Matt Haney’s (D-San Francisco) legislation to allow – but not require – seven pilot cities to extend sales of alcohol at bars, nightclubs, and restaurants (but not liquor stores) to as late as 4am passed the Assembly Committee on Governmental Organization by a vote of 12-3. It will now head to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

Senator Wiener’s 1st-in-Nation Climate Corporate Accountability Act Passes Assembly Judiciary Committee

SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Senate Bill 260, the Climate Corporate Accountability Act (CCAA), passed the Assembly Judiciary Committee by a vote of 6-3. It will now head to the Assembly Appropriations Committee. SB 260 would be the first law in the country to require U.S.-based companies — those doing business in California and generating over $1 billion in gross annual revenue — to disclose all of their greenhouse gas emissions to the California Secretary of State’s office.

Senator Wiener’s Legislation to Stop Cities from Banning Medicinal Cannabis Passes Assembly Business and Professions Committee

SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Senate Bill 1186, which restores voter-created access to medicinal cannabis across the state by requiring cities to allow patients access to purchase legal medicinal cannabis by delivery, passed the Assembly Business and Professions Committee by a vote of 13-2. It now heads to the Assembly Judiciary Committee.

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bills 1207 and 883 passed the Assembly Health Committee.  SB 1205 is authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) and would improve maternal mental health support by providing women with outreach services, education and access to mental health treatment.  SB 883, jointly authored by Senator Portantino and Senator Roth, extends the sunset date on the Umbilical Cord Blood Collection Program (UCBCP) for an additional five years.
